Con el paso del tiempo y ya con un poco más de madurez emocional pude identificar, que todo el tiempo en que yo me sentí extraña con mi forma de lidiar con mis sentimientos no era algo malo, sino que yo percibía las cosas de una forma más intensa que otras personas.

Las "Personas altamente sensibles" (Highly Sensitive Person), abarcan el 15-30% de la población y en términos más técnicos podríamos decir que supone una mayor sensibilidad emocional y mayor reactividad del Sistema Nervioso Central. Te voy a platicar un poco de ciertos comportamientos que como PAS, me ha costado mucho superar en mi vida, pero gracias que he podido identificarlas he tenido oportunidad de trabajar en ello y resolverlo de cierta forma que no intervengan en mi vida o en mi forma de relacionarme con las personas. Si tu te sientes identificada/o con alguno de los siguientes puntos que te voy a compartir, puedes buscar un test de PAS para checar si tienes una personalidad que entra dentro de este porcentaje.

Throughout my life, I always felt that I was a very weak and vulnerable person regarding my emotions because society has always imposed on us in some way that showing vulnerability or weakness in an emotional way is frowned upon, and every time something made me feel bad or someone said something that hurt me, I could not prevent it from affecting me in some way, and you know there was never a lack of the typical phrases that tell you: "crocodile tears" or "You're going to start crying as always", and phrases like that, and that made me feel misunderstood or even want to isolate myself from people.

With the passage of time and with a little more emotional maturity I was able to identify that all the time when I felt strange with the way I dealt with my feelings it was not something bad, but that I perceived things in a more intense way than other people does.

The "highly sensitive people" (HSP), comprise 15-30% of the population and in more technical terms we could say that it involves a greater emotional sensitivity and greater reactivity of the Central Nervous System. I'm going to tell you a bit about certain behaviors that as HSP, it has been difficult for me to overcome in my life, but thanks to the fact that I have been able to identify them, I have had the opportunity to work on it and solve it in a certain way that doesn't intervene in my life or in my way of relating to people. Voy a empezar con los problemas o desventajas que conllevan ser una PAS y como he lidiado con el problema y a continuación con unas cuantas ventajas o porque no es tan malo ser una persona así:

• No puedes funcionar sin dormir. Creo que esto podría incluir a todas las personas, ya que lógicamente si no duermes bien tu nivel de productividad será más bajo. Pero las PAS tienden a necesitar un poco más de horas de sueño y si no consiguen tener un horario estable, no solo su nivel de productividad bajará sino que pasará a ser totalmente nulo. Aquí puedo decir que, comparándome con otras personas siempre me he dado cuenta de esto, a veces no entiendo como es que necesito dormir tanto para realizar las tareas que otras personas hacen con menos horas de sueño, y siempre ha sido un pequeño problema para mí, creo que por eso desarrollé mi dependencia a la cafeína. En este caso, lo único que he podido hacer es reorganizar mi horario de ir a dormir, que si, es de señora, después de las 11pm ya es inaceptable seguir despierta para mi.

• No soportas sonidos muy ruidosos. Incluso podría agregar, ambientes con muchas personas, lugares ruidosos como conciertos, festivales, fiestas, BIG NO. No me malinterpreten en este aspecto, hay ocasiones, muy raras ocasiones en que podría disfrutar de eventos así, pero solo por un pequeño tiempo y probablemente me sentiría un poco drenada de energía al final y necesitaría una gran recarga de pila al día siguiente.

• Usualmente te sientes emocionalmente exhausto. Creo que este es uno de los puntos más importantes, como persona que siente todo de forma tan intensa, a veces hay situaciones que realmente te dejan agotado de forma emocional, y esto me pasa mucho cuando tengo algún pequeño contratiempo o algún conflicto, es que como si me drenara y automáticamente subiera una barrera a mi alrededor para poder protegerme de todo. Llega un punto en que me siento cansada, sin ganas de nada, y todo este agotamiento se transforma de forma física también, como consecuencia, afectando mis actividades cotidianas.

• Eres una persona que sobre piensa todo! Por ejemplo, somos personas que leemos entre líneas o nos gusta observar el comportamiento de otras personas (puede sonar creepy pero no lo hacemos con mala intención) entonces a veces hay ocasiones en que conocemos bien como se comportan otras personas y su forma de expresarse que cuando hacen algo diferente lo podemos notar enseguida. En el caso de las relaciones amorosas es un poco difícil lidiar con esto, ya que al ser una persona tan especial para nosotros aprendemos a leerlas enseguida, por lo que si vemos algo diferente en su forma de dirigirse hacía nosotros inmediatamente pensaremos que algo malo está sucediendo o que nosotros hicimos algo mal y nos estaremos atormentando con eso probablemente toda la noche hasta que por fin podamos preguntar y bueno, eso también es importante mencionar, si tu pareja no conoce esto de ti probablemente no te comprenderá.

• Te cuesta trabajo seguir adelante o superar algunas situaciones. Creo que en este aspecto he aprendido a dejar fluir las cosas y dejarlas ir, sin embargo debo aceptar que hubo situaciones a las que me aferré sabiendo que habían quedado en el pasado, sabiendo que estaban afectándome en mi presente. Aquí puedo decir que logré trabajar completamente en esto y ahora si hay algo que me afectó en un momento, lo resuelvo y solo lo dejo atrás. No voy a mentir, siguen habiendo ocasiones en que esa barrera quiere volver a subir pero he encontrado la forma de controlarlo.

• Te afectan los problemas de las personas que te rodean. Creo que una de mis virtudes y podría considerar un poco defecto. La empatía es algo que tenemos y que hasta nos sobra, y es que no podemos ver a personas que queremos pasar por un mal momento y querer ayudarles y hacer de sus problemas nuestros. Aún así, es algo que no cambiaría, digo, si están en mis manos poder ayudar a otra persona nunca dudaré hacerlo, muchos podrían pensar que es ponerse una carga encima que no nos corresponde pero simplemente es algo que no puedo evitar hacer, me va a drenar emocionalmente? si, ocupará mi mente y me estresará un poco? Si, otra vez. No obstante, creo que el mundo necesita de personas más empáticas y menos egoístas.

• Tú eres tu peor crítico. Tengo que explicarlo? Siempre he sido una persona que no descansa hasta conseguir sus sueños o metas, y por esta razón cuando algo no sale como quiero, puedo llegar a frustrarme y ser muy dura conmigo mismo, creo que por eso es bueno estar rodeada de personas que puedan hacerte ver las cosas buenas y positivas que hay en ti, ya que generalmente somos nuestros peores críticos y como ya lo mencioné somos sumamente duros con nosotros.

• Requieres de mucho tiempo a solas. Otra de las cosas en las que he podido trabajar. Siempre había sido una persona que disfrutaba como nunca estar a solas y no ser molestada incluso por personas a las que les tengo afecto, pero como todo, cualquier exceso es malo. Después de una dosis de "ser social" o "hablar mucho" con alguien, es muy recurrente querer aislarnos un poco para recuperar nuestras energías, por que aunque no lo crean, nos sentimos agotadas! Es por eso, que es importante descubrir que son las cosas que te hacen sentir mejor para hacerlas cuando tienes tu "me time" y poder ayudarte a sentir mejor, en mi caso, creo que recurro mucho a leer, dibujar o pintar.

• A menudo te malinterpretan. Como persona que siente todo de forma más potente y a esto agregando ser una persona totalmente expresiva, es muy común que al querer comunicar lo que estoy sintiendo pueda ser percibido de otra forma y creo que a veces puede ser algo frustrante y un poco decepcionante que otra persona no pueda entender lo que estás sintiendo. No es que busquemos crear un conflicto, de hecho, todo lo contrario, necesitamos comunicar lo que está pasando en nuestra cabeza y como estamos percibiendo las cosas y necesitamos un poco de empatía para despejar estos pensamientos de nuestra cabeza. Creo que es super importante rodearte de personas que puedan entenderte en esto y que no te hagan sentir como que lo que estás sintiendo está mal o que eres un bicho raro por sentir lo que estás sintiendo.

Creo que estos pueden ser los problemas más importantes que afectan la vida de este tipo de personas, y aunque creo que nada es tan grave y todo tiene solución trabajando en cada aspecto, no todo aquí es malo, a veces tiene sus beneficios ser así, todo con medida, pero si, como lo mencioné puede ser algo de virtud/defecto dependiendo de silo sabes controlar o no. Algunos beneficios son:

• Eres sensible. Obviamente...sin embargo no es malo ser sensible, muchas personas tienen una coraza que no les permite expresar sus sentimientos, y tu en cambio, expresas lo malo y lo bueno y eso es algo bueno! Que feo quedarse con todo guardado.
• Eres "over thinker". Tricky one, pero, el poder sobre analizar las cosas, también te ayuda a ver los diferentes resultados de una situación y por esto estar preparado o ser más precavido con las cosas que haces.
• Eres una persona empática. Totalmente una virtud, como ya lo mencioné, en el mundo existe tanta crueldad y maldad que necesita más personas empáticas no solo con otras personas, con el medio ambiente, con los animales. Y ya sé, suena a un mundo perfecto, pero no, solo creo que estaría cool que las personas pudieran ponerse en los zapatos de otra persona de vez en cuando.
• Eres una persona apasionada. Nos permite ponerle más fuerza a cualquier situación con la que estemos lidiando y dedicamos muchísima energía a aquellas cosas que amamos o nos hacen felices
• Eres Creativa. Casi siempre encontrarás que este tipo de persona es sumamente creativa, no necesariamente enfocado a la pintura, o el dibujo, sino a cualquier actividad artística y que te permita expresar tus sentimientos en forma de un libro, una película, una fotografía, una pieza musical, en fin.
• Eres bueno escuchando a las demás personas. Si siempre has sido "listener", sabes a lo que me refiero. Por tu forma de ser empática es muy común que las personas confíen en ti muy rápido, a mi siempre me pasa y termino escuchando los problemas de las personas y intentar ayudarles de la mejor forma que pueda, si no hay nada que yo pueda hacer, al menos palabras de ánimo y alguien que te escuché nunca te faltará.

• You cannot function without sleep. I think this could include all people, since logically if you don't sleep well your productivity level will be lower. But the HSP tend to need a little more hours of sleep and if they don't manage to have a stable schedule, not only will their productivity level drop, but it will become completely zero. Here I can say that, comparing myself with other people I have always realized this, sometimes I don't understand how it is that I need to sleep so much to perform the tasks that other people do with less sleep, and it has always been a small problem for me I think that's why I developed my dependence on caffeine. In this case, the only thing I have been able to do is reorganize my schedule to go to sleep, yes, it is a old lady schedule, after 11pm it is already unacceptable for me to stay awake.

• You can't stand very loud sounds. You could even add, environments with many people, noisy places like concerts, festivals, parties, BIG NO. Don't get me wrong on this point, there are times, very rare times that I could enjoy events like this, but only for a short time and I would probably feel a bit drained of power in the end and need a big battery recharge the next day.

• You usually feel emotionally drained. I think this is one of the most important points, as a person who feels everything so intensely, sometimes there are situations that really leave you emotionally exhausted, and this happens to me a lot when I have a small setback or conflict, is that as if it drained me and automatically raised a barrier around me in order to protect myself from everything. There comes a point where I feel tired, not wanting anything, and all this exhaustion transforms physically as a consequence, affecting my daily activities.

• You are a person who overthinks about everything! For example, we are people who read between the lines or we like to observe the behavior of other people (it may sound creepy but we don't do it with bad intentions) so sometimes there are times when we know well how other people behave and their way of expressing themselves that when they do something different we can notice it right away. In the case of love relationships it is a bit difficult to deal with this, since being such a special person for us we learn to read them right away, so if we see something different in his way of addressing us we will immediately think that something wrong is happening or that maybe we did something wrong and we will be tormenting ourselves with that probably all night until we can finally ask and well, that is also important to mention, if your partner doesn't know this about you, they probably will not understand you.

• You have a hard time moving on or overcoming some situations. I believe that in this aspect I have learned to let things flow and let them go, however I must accept that there were situations that I clung to knowing that they were in the past, knowing that they were affecting me in my present. Here I can say that I managed to fully work on this and now if there is something that affected me at one point, I resolve it and just leave it behind. I'm not going to lie, there are still times when that barrier wants to go back up but I have found a way to control it.

• You are affected by the problems of the people around you. I think one of my strengths and I could consider it a bit flaw. Empathy is something that we have and that we even have left over, and we cannot see people who is going through a bad time and want to help them and make their problems our own. Even so, it is something that I would not change, I mean, if it is in my hands to be able to help another person I will never hesitate to do so, many might think that it is putting a burden on us that doesn't correspond to us but it is simply something that I cannot avoid doing, it will drain me emotionally? Yes, will it occupy my mind and stress me out a bit? Yes again. However, I believe that the world needs more empathetic and less selfish people.

• You are your worst critic. Do I have to explain it? I have always been a person who doesn't rest until they achieve their dreams or goals, and for this reason when something doesn't go the way I want, I can get frustrated and be very hard on myself, I think that is why it is good to be surrounded by people who can make you See the good and positive things that are in you, since we are generally our worst critics and as I already mentioned we are extremely hard on ourselves.

• You require a lot of time alone. Another of the things I have been able to work on. I had always been a person who enjoyed being alone and not being bothered even by people I have affection for, but like everything, any excess is bad. After a dose of "being social" or "talking a lot" with someone, it is very recurrent to want to isolate ourselves a little to regain our energy, because believe it or not, we feel exhausted! That is why it is important to discover what are the things that make you feel better to do when you have your "me time" and to be able to help you feel better, in my case, I think I resort a lot to reading, drawing or painting.

• They often misunderstand you. As a person who feels everything in a more powerful way and in addition to being a totally expressive person, it is very common that when wanting to communicate what I am feeling it can be perceived in another way and I think that sometimes it can be somewhat frustrating and a little disappointing than another person may not understand what you are feeling. It is not that we seek to create a conflict, in fact, quite the opposite, we need to communicate what is happening in our head and how we are perceiving things and we need a little empathy to clear these thoughts from our head. I think it is super important to surround yourself with people who can understand you in this and who don't make you feel like what you are feeling is wrong or that you are a freak for feeling what you are feeling.

En el post pasado les compartí un poco de lo que han sido mis últimos meses, y hoy quise compartirles un poco de lo que fue hacer la edición "Hecho en casa" que es nuestra actual edición digital en HYD. Hacer esta edición no fue tan fácil e implicó mucho trabajo de equipo de nuestras increíbles colaboradoras que trabajaron y dieron su mayor esfuerzo desde casa.

Primero que nada, obviamente organizar los artículos, la portada y todo el contenido que teníamos pensado hacer se tuvo que comenzar desde cero, ya que desde hace meses considerábamos una idea diferente de lo que queríamos compartir durante el verano, sin embargo por obvias razones y circunstancias tuvimos que adaptarnos a una edición digital y volver a replantear todo. Por todo el tema de la cuarentena, tuve que encargarme de organizar la edición y platicar con cada una de las colaboradoras para ver que podíamos hacer desde casa y que artículos eran los que serían de mayor interés para nuestras lectoras en estos momentos, y después de concretar la lista pude por fin organizar el contenido y mi equipo.

Ahora, lo más importante era resolver el problema de la portada, el artículo central y, como nombraríamos a esta edición que sin duda es algo especial y única. Dando mil vueltas en mi cabeza, y sin querer nombrar la edición con algo tan obvio o pesimista o melancólico de la situación y la pandemia (porque creo que ya estamos super conscientes de eso, así que necesitábamos algo un poco más positivo), estuve tachando nombres en una hoja hasta que un día mientras pensaba en como resolvería las fotos me dije "Wow tengo que hacer todo esto en casa, hacer toda la edición desde casa" y fue ahí cuando dije, este es el título perfecto para la edición, y así fue como el concepto se definió y todo comenzó a tener más sentido y forma.

Para mi fue todo un reto fotografiar la portada, porque sinceramente nunca había pensado en ser yo la modelo de alguna, pero dado que no había opción de hacer un shooting en esos momentos, tuve que ingeniármelas y ser fotógrafa y modelo al mismo tiempo, pero si soy honesta con ustedes, creo que fue un poco más fácil para mi plasmar la idea que tenía en mi mente, y eso ayudó muchísimo a que el resultado fuera lo que estaba buscando. Y bueno, que les puedo contar del artículo central, creo que más que un artículo fue una carta para las lectoras, para dar esperanza, para que supieran que aunque todos estemos pasando por esta terrible situación, tenemos que dejar de dar las cosas por sentado, a veces estas sacudidas son necesarias para darnos cuenta del valor de muchas cosas y que a pesar de todos los obstáculos y piedras en el camino, podremos salir adelante.

In the last post, I shared with you a little of what my last months have been, and today I wanted to share with you a little of what it was like to make the "Hecho en casa" (homemade) edition that is our current digital edition in HYD. Making this digital issue was not that easy and involved a lot of teamwork from our amazing collaborators who worked and gave their best from home.

First of all, obviously organizing the articles, the cover and all the content that we had planned to do had to start from scratch, since for months we had considered a different idea of ​​what we wanted to share during the summer, however for obvious reasons and circumstances we had to adapt to a digital edition and rethink everything. Due to the whole issue of quarantine, I had to take care of organizing the edition and talking with each of the collaborators to see what we could do from home and what articles were the ones that would be of most interest to our readers at this time, and after specify the list I was finally able to organize the content and my team.

Now, the most important thing was to solve the problem of the cover, the central article and, how we would name this edition, it is undoubtedly something special and unique. Going around a thousand times in my head, and without wanting to name the issue with something so obvious or pessimistic or melancholic about the situation and the pandemic (because I think we are already super aware of that, so we needed something a little more positive), I was crossing out names on a sheet until one day while I was thinking about how to solve the photos I said to myself "Wow I have to do all this at home, do all the digital issue from home" and that's when I said, this is the perfect title for the magazine, and that's how the concept was defined and everything started to have more meaning and shape.

It was a challenge for me to photograph the cover, because honestly I had never thought about being someone's model, but since there was no option to do a shooting at that time, I had to figure it out and be a photographer and a model at the same time, but If I'm honest with you, I think it was a little easier for me to translate the idea that I had in my mind, and that helped a lot to make the result what I was looking for. Well, what can I tell you about the central article, I think that more than an article it was a letter to the readers, to give hope, so that they would know that although we are all going through this terrible situation, we have to stop taking things for granted Sometimes these shocks are necessary to realize the value of many things and that despite all the obstacles and stones on the way, we will be able to move forward.
